Four Paws, a New York pet product company, has recalled its Rough and Rugged Pimple Ball with Bell models for dogs after one injured a Labrador retriever in June. The animal's tongue had to be amputated after it became lodged inside the ball.
About 500,000 Four Paws pimple balls have been sold nationwide over two to three years, Executive Vice President Barry Askin said. A defect caused the ball's second hole to be sealed, which can create a vacuum when chewed by a pet.
The balls were made for Four Paws in China. Askin said Four Paws has asked all the retailers it supplies, which in South Florida include Pet Supermarket, Petco and small stores, to pull the products from their shelves.
Pet owners should take the balls away from their dogs, and call Four Paws at 800-835-0909, or go to fourpaws.com for recall information.
