Beef From Calif. Recalled Due To E. Coli

MILWAUKEE – This year has set a record for beef recalls, and another one was announced Thursday.

S&S Foods LLC of Azusa, Calif. is recalling over 150,000 pounds of frozen ground beef because of E. coli contamination.

Included in the recall are 30-pound boxes of 742798 MFST, 100 % Ground Beef Bulk, 80/20, 1 lb. brick.

The boxes have establishment number Est. 20375 inside the USDA mark of inspection and a case code beginning 06238 printed on the side.

The product was distributed in Milwaukee and Allentown, Penn.

So far, there have been 11 reports of illnesses associated with consumption of the beef.

This year has been one of the worst years for beef recalls. In 2006, there were 34 recalls. In 2007, there were 55 recalls, and through March of this year, there have been 12 recalls.
