Noven: Some Daytrana patches recalled

Noven Pharmaceuticals said some Daytrana patches are being recalled some because some people could have difficulty removing the release liner of the patch before applying it to the skin.

The attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder treatment was developed and is manufactured by Noven and is licensed globally to Shire Ltd.

Shire said the Daytrana patches included in the two lots -- 2750211 and 2764111 -- can continue to be used unless there are problems removing the liner or the patches are damaged upon removing the liner. The companies do not anticipate a shortage as a result of the voluntary recall.

Miami-based Noven continues to manufacture the product and Shire continues to promote it in the U.S.

"The Daytrana product enhancements implemented in 2007 generally improved the ease of use of Daytrana and substantially reduced complaint rates, but they have not fully resolved the issue," Noven Chief Executive Officer Peter Brandt said in a news release. "We have recently identified a probable root cause, as well as several possible solutions, and testing is underway to confirm our belief that we are headed toward resolution of this issue."

Noven (NASDAQ: NOVN) shares closed down 61 cents to $11.32. The 52-week high was $26.15 on June 20. The 52-week low was $8.49 on April 22.
