Lever hoists recalled

A NOBLE & Son has issued a product alert and recall for its 1.5t Rig-Mate lever hoists.

The recall affects 120 units from 20 December 2007, with serial numbers between 720153 and 720272, and 200 units from 20 March 2008, with serial numbers between 750483 and 750682.

According to the recall notice, operators of affected lever hoists should immediately stop using them and contact the retailer urgently.

The slack end of the load chain was found to jam against the stripper and bottom load bolt when tested with a 1.5t load in both the vertical and horizontal positions.

If lighter loads are used, the chain could pop out when it contacts the stripper.

Heavier loads result in worse jamming. This could result in stripper distortion and ultimately load chain failure if the operator continued to lever the handle while the chain is jammed.

Returned hoists from the affected batches should be returned to Noble for checking, proof load testing and replacement as necessary.
