WASHINGTON, D.C. — (OfficialWire) — 08/22/08 -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of Venmar CES heat recovery ventilators due to a fire hazard.
The company has received three reports of ventilators overheating, resulting in fires, CPSC said.
About 3,400 of the ventilators, made by Venmar CES Inc. of Saskatoon, Canada, and used in homes to provide fresh air, were sold through building supply distributors from January 1991 through July 2007 for $1,700-$2,000, CPSC said.
They are described as light commercial heat recovery ventilators. Ten models -- the Flair, Venmar, PrepAir, vanEE, Carrier, York, Heil, Aston, Broan and Venmate -- are involved in the recall.
Consumers were advised to disconnect the recalled ventilators from power supplies. Consumers can contact Venmar CES to schedule a free repair.
