Off the Cob-brand kernel corn is recalled

WASHINGTON, May 29 (UPI) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the voluntarily recall of 87 cases of Off the Cob-brand corn due to possible contamination.

The FDA said Supreme Cuts LLC of Mahwah, N.J., initiated the recall of the 12-ounce bags of corn because they might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes -- a bacterium that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections.

The recalled product was sold in New Jersey and Massachusetts in clear plastic bags marked with a "best if used by" date of May 26, 2008, and lot number 5343.

Consumers with questions can contact company representative Lucy Rosen at 516-222-0236.
